Afternoon tea @ Cameron Highlands Resort

During our trip to Cameron Highlands, we stayed in Cameron Highlands Resort, one of the YTL’s resorts. The hotel room was nice, the service was great, and the breakfast and tea at Jim Thompson’s tearoom was excellent!


I enjoyed afternoon tea with my parents while my husband took care of the kids^^ (thank you…). One great thing about this hotel is that they had kid’s room, where kids could enjoy small slides and blocks whenever they want to.

So this is the three-tier afternoon tea set, RM80++ for 2pax (including 2 choices of BOH Tea).

There were scones, a few kinds of sandwiches, madeleine, red velvet cake, eclair, cheesecake, strawberry tart, lavender macaron and strawberries. The quality was high and I especially liked their scones and eclair!


And this was the breakfast I had. It was not a buffet type and you select from the menu and that made everything fresh and nice. I, of course, chose their pancakes and waffles over savory dish like omlette. I loved the waffle so much that I ordered it again next morning.

After I came back home, I baked some scones and enjoyed them over a cup of BOH Tea and Cameron Highland Strawberry jam!

April classes are finished!

We just finished all our classes in April! I’d like to thank you all for joining our classes again this month!

The last lesson was Afternoon Tea Special Class. This is a very interesting class which you can learn 5 kinds of sweets and sandwich in one session!

For this lesson, I focused on quick & easy & delicious sweets so that you can for sure bake them at home for your family and friends! So even though we made more items than the regular classes, I felt that we used less tools and dish! You know, washing tools and plates are another work when baking…;

I hope that students enjoyed the class and were excited to practice at home after the class^^!


And yes, I opened the Ceylon Silver Tips tea I was talking about the other day. The tea leaves were beautifully shining in silver color, and the color, fregnant and the taste was excellent! I forgot to take the photos but would definitely like to write about it the next time I have them.

Afternoon Tea Lesson*

Every once in a while I conduct Season Special Class! These are the special classes that you get to enjoy Japanese four seasons and other cultural events! In February we had Valentine Day’s Special and in March we had Hinamatsuri Japanese Children Day Special!

And for the month of April and May, it will be Afternoon Tea Special Lesson!

Here are the 6 items you will learn during this 5 hour course!

1. Scone

2. Sable Cookie

3. N.Y. Style Cheesecake

4. Gateau Chocolat (Chocolate Cake)

5. Panna Cotta (Blanc Manger)

6. Sandwich (Tuna & cucumber)

This time I focused on quick & practical menu, so that you can swiftly prepare them whenever you have guests coming to your house!

The photos are the image of this lesson, and we will be baking all the 6 items together. You get to bring back all the recipes and 2 persons portion of the afternoon tea sets!

During the tasting session at the end of the class, I’ll prepare Caramel Factory’s two popular flavor macarons and two types of teas.

Hinamatrusi Special Class*

Another class we have this weekend is- Hinamatsuri Special Class (Japanese Children’s Day)! Honestly speaking, I might be the one looking forward to this class the most, haha. I am thrilled to celebrate Japanese children’s day (Girls’ Day) together with you all.

The traditional color theme for Hinamatsuri is pink, green and white. If you google the image of Hinamatsuri, you will find those Japanese dolls together with 3 layered-color mochi served in front of them. It’s perhaps something like the mandarin orange for Chinese tradition?

The menu for this Hinamatsuri course is; Japanese Cream Puff, Mini Maccha Muffin and Sakura Cookies.

Japanese Cream Puff (each of you will bring back 10 pieces): You get to learn the tips of making crispy cream puff skin together with delicious creme. We will put strawberries inside.

Mini Maccha Muffins (10 pieces): Enjoy the scent of green tea! We will use green tea powder from Japan. For the Sakura Cookies, which is the third item in this class, we will be using green tea powder from local supplier. We will see the difference of those two green tea powders.

During our ‘food-tasting’ time, we will coordinate the table in a Hinamatsuri Afternoon tea style!

And I’ll be teaching you additional item Strawberry Milk Tea. This lovely tea is like a dessert!

I will also be preparing some small surprise for the students.

Afternoon tea @ Ritz Carlton Hotel!

Last week I went to afternoon tea at Ritz Carlton Hotel with my friend! I’ve always dreamed of going to afternoon tea since I moved to Malaysia, so when my friend asked me to go there, we started looking for some places and found this Ritz Carlton Hotel English Afternoon Tea.

Classical Lobby. We received warm greetings from the staffs.

The tea they serve is from Germany called Ronnefeldt, and they had over 40 kinds of teas; from black tea to herbal tea, flavored tea and green tea. After thinking for a few minutes, I chose Darjeeling tea (Jungpana) and my friend chose Earl Grey Tea.

This is the food trey. It came in three-tiered plates!

<First plate>

Plain scone, Apple scone, Mushroom & potato pie, Kiche

<Second Plate>

Cucumber sandwich, Salmon & creemcheese bread, Ham & cheese bread

<Third Plate>

Fruits tarte, Choux, Chocolate cake, Mango cheesecake, Cassis macaron

Since I have been making many macarons, the most curious pastry among all was this macaron. Just like its vivid color, the taste was thick and good. The crust was a bit thinner and crispier than the ones I make. I also liked their apple scone. They were all quite good.

As for Hanae, she seemed to be excited and started raising her voice as soon as we sat down. She must have felt that the place was quiet and somewhat different from where we usually go^^;. I was a bit nervous because there were some customers in other tables… but they seemed to be ok. Also, the staff was very nice and they tried to play with Hanae and gave her some buscuits. One thing I found about Malaysians is that they are so nice to babies. Wherever I take Hanae, she always gets treated well and be played by people around her. This is something you might not get in Japan (as my japanese friends agree to me, people tend to be indifferent to other people’s babies in Japan), so I feel happy about this.

Anyway, as soon as Hanae got the buscuits she grabbed them with both hands! She munched into them and made this ‘wow’ look and got even more excited. She didn’t want to let them go. I was a bit worried because the cookies looked like shortbread and chocolate chip cookies with lots of sugar, but since I was having a good time I let her enjoy herself  too…

We all enjoyed having tea there. Good ambience, good food and heart warming service.

If I have a chance, I’d like to go back there again!
