Happy CNY!

Happy Chinese New Year!

(Bye bye Rabbit. Welcome Dragon!)

I hope you all had a great CNY holiday!

As for me, I went back to my husband’s hometown in Ipoh for a couple of days and visited our relatives, met up with some of our friends in KL, and saw my Japanese friend and her family who were traveling to Malaysia! It was quite a hectic holiday for us and three of us fell sick… but it was a good beginning of the year.

Right before Chinese New Year, we conducted Children Baking Class!

This time the children batch was slightly younger. We had couple of 4 year old kids, and few mommies stayed around during the class. We made Cartoon Chocolate Cookies in Day 1 and Angry Bird Buns in Day 2!

Just as I expected, children loved smashing the cookie & bread dough.

This girl-team’s bread dough fluffed up very nicely. Well done!

These three girls on the right had a great teamwork! They are schoolmates.

And this cute little girl on the left is just 4 years old.

The fillings are white bean and homemade pumpkin paste!

The eyebrows are made with black (charcoal) icing sugar.

After all the ‘touch’ and the ‘punch’ and the decoration, some of the Angry bird buns became a bit too hard to eat…^^; but as long as children enjoyed baking, it’s alright right!?

I hope that the children get to bake with their parents again at home!

The schedules for Children Baking Classes in February are as below.  We have two weekends for children baking next month. We hope to see you all again, children!!!


1) February 18th (Sat.) & 19th (Sun.), 2:30pm-5:45pm

     MENU – Caramel Banana Muffin & Chocolate Chip Cookies

2) February 25th (Sat.) & 26th (Sun.), 10:00am-1:15pm

      MENU – Special Cheesecake & Smiley Biscuit

FEE:      RM180  RM150/course (2 days)

Children Baking Class & Adult Advanced Class Menu*

January Children Baking Class is coming soon this weekend! Oh, it’s Chinese New Year! We are supposed to celebrate our New Year Eve with our family!

But don’t worry, the class will be held in the morning till early afternoon, so for those who go back to their hometown only on the 23rd (Mon.), which is the first day of CNY, can still join our class! Anyone who is between 4yrs to 12yrs old can attend this class^^. Here are the course details;

<Children Baking Class (2 day course)>

DATE:  January 21st (Sat.) 10am – 1:15pm &  January 22nd (Sun.) 10am-1:15pm

MENU:  Day 1 – Cartoon Chocolate Cookies

                 Day 2 – Angry Bird Pumpkin & White bean Buns

FEE:      RM180  RM150/course

We are waiting for you kids-. guak guak…

<Advanced Class Menu>

We also have Advanced class for the adult this coming Saturday. The menu for this class is; Gateau Fromague & Earl Grey Tea Sable. The menu looks similar to Basic A class, but both the cheesecake and sable use totally different methods to make.

Gateau Fromague is a dense cheesecake with rich and creamy texture. We willalso learn how to bake genoise (a sponge cake) and put them at the bottom.

Another menu is Earl Grey Tea Sable. This is a fragile cookie and the moment you bite onto it, it melts in your mouth!

Day 3 – Angry Bird Cupcakes!

Children Baking Class – 3rd day was Angry Bird Cupcakes! This was the day that the children were most looking forward to! Kids are crazy about Angry Birds^^!

There are many kinds of Angry Bird Cupcakes, and mine is using icing sugar and some toppings such as sugar sprinkles, chocolate and apricots. I figured fondant might be a bit too difficult for children, and also I personally prefer icing sugar to fondant (cuz they are easier to eat) so I chose this kind.

I honestly didn’t expect the children to do this good. Boy, I am so proud as a teacher!

This little boy’s favorite bird was a black one, the bomb bird.

This little girl followed my sample and made white bird’s cheek with yellow sprinkles. Well done!

This little girl is only 4 years old! Good job! (I helped her finish up with the other birds.)

When we made doughnuts (Day 1) and cookies (Day 2), the children were shaking their boxes left and right and all the items went all over inside the box, but this time, they were carefully and preciously carried their boxes back home…^^

Angry Bird Cupcake Class @ Cake Connection!

A few days ago I was invited to an Angry Bird Cupcake Class at Cake Connection @ Jaya One!

It all started from an email from Shyamala and Nancy, the owners of this lovely shop, inviting food bloggers to their class. It was a pleasant surprise for me, since I am not exactly a food blogger, so the first thing that came up in my mind was “how did they find me!?” Then oh, the theme is Angry Bird Cupcakes! I had been seeing Angry Birds everywhere these days, and was especially curious about how people make those colorful figures on cupcakes, so I decided to join their class with excitement!

Cake Connection is a lovely shop with decorating cakes displayed in front. As soon as I entered the shop, I was warmly welcomed by Shyamala and Nancy and soon felt relaxed. The classroom was also in an intimate and cozy setting, which reflect two of their characters.

The sample of Angry Bird Cupcakes were waiting for us nicely in the middle of the classroom. Wow!

Nancy taught us how to make them with fondant using many tools. We learned 6 Angry Bird figures from her step by step, two in 2D and four in 3D.

This chocolate cupcakes smelled so- good.

Nancy made all the Angry Birds and Piggie with a practiced hand.

But when we started to work on fondant… it was not as smooth as we thought. After making the first two figures, we were all kind of tired, since it was very detailed work!  Well that’s probably because we were so focused on making our birds as pretty as possible!

I was quite fascinated by all my fellow bloggers’ work. They were; Ivy of My Story, Chris of Pureglutton, Zurin of Cherry On A Cake, Sonia of Nasi Lemak Lover, Veronica of Quay Po Cooks, and Joslynn of Petit Nonya.

I was impressed by Nancy’s way of teaching us, because not only she continued a friendly chat with us, but she also didn’t forget to pay attention on each of our hands and gave us advice precisely. I was also impressed on how detailed her Angry Birds are! We even had to make feathers and nostrils! And that’s why all our Angry Bird Cupcakes looked so great at the end of the day!


We were so proud and excited to see our cupcakes, and were chatting over snacks at the end of 4 hour course.

I couldn’t wait to bring them back home and show them to my husband who plays Angry Birds. As I expected, he gave me wooow compliment! If you have children, this must be even better! It was totally worth it.

My Angry Birds were taken during a photo session at home. Although I only managed to take the pictures after two days and some of the birds got squashed (a bit fattish), they were still in pretty good shapes.
